watching a trailer for gray's anatomy-super dramatic, filled with moments showing doctors undergoing emotional trauma....a side effect of being one,or so it seems.being one myself, this irritates me.the pain the patient and family are experiencing is the most important.certain cases are difficult to be a part of,mentally and physically.but as lord lancelot spratt said, the physician's job is to heal bodies as the shoemaker is to mend shoes.and neither of us has the right to be sentimental about it.

amit chaudhuri and the immortals
I liked reading through The Immortals...it had a gentle pace and a subtle touch.what was notable was the strong intellect of the person who wrote it.I wasn't surprised when I googled amit chaudhuri later and found that he was an Oxonian academic and a gifted poet.he's adept at describing the elusive simply- complex feelings and relationships are described in an original and beautiful way.i don't know how much technical similarity he shares with anita desai, but I was reminded of her while reading through his work(though all that I've read of both is, in totality, three novels). It's recording lives.not through stories, but small incidents and impressions.that's how are actual lives flow, rather than the plot tethered vehicles that most novels are.
